Analytical documentation is useful when its boundaries are explicit. A certificate is not a universal safety, efficacy, or experiment-suitability claim.
Interpret the record within its scope
HPLC and mass spectrometry can document specified chemical characteristics when the method, sample, and result are properly identified. They do not answer every question a researcher may have about a material.
Not automatically established
- Biological activity or performance in a model system
- Sterility or endotoxin status
- Long-term stability outside the documented conditions
- Suitability for a particular protocol or institution
- Human or veterinary safety, efficacy, or therapeutic use
Questions to ask before an inquiry
- Is the record tied to the lot being offered?
- Which method produced each result?
- Which tests were not performed?
- What storage and chain-of-custody information is documented?
